On 7/11/2023 the all male editorial board of the ‘Albuquerque Journal’ wrote, ‘Governor should create a hotline for more than abortion care’. “If you need an abortion, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham ‘gleefully’ has your back… Transportation help to clinics is available. If only our vets had it so good.” Have some folks always been so stupid, about everything, forever?
The State of NM - Highly Rural Transportation Program offers medical transportation for veterans that reside in 15 highly rural counties in NM… Disabled veterans in northern and central New Mexico can arrange for free transportation to and from their home…
These men claim that the Governor should create hotlines for mammograms, colonoscopy’s, and cataract surgery. Have these bros ever used Bing? New Mexico's toll-free hotline for breast and cervical cancer screening services and support is (833) 525-1811. New Mexico has many resources for cataracts, including eye care centers, ophthalmologists, and surgical centers. New Mexico offers cancer information/resources to the public. Thanks Bing!
The ABQJ editorial makes ZERO mention that the United States Supreme Court overturned ‘Roe Vs Wade’ in the 2022. The safespace of self affirming pablum is typical for their reactionary ilk!
Even though former U.S. POTUS Donald Trump stated on 10/19/2016, “I will appoint Supreme Court Justices to overturn ‘Roe v Wade’”. The ABQ Journal editors gaslit readers by writing on 2/5/2017, “No one can seriously suggest that Neil Gorsuch would vote for a radical rewriting of the law in cases such as ‘Roe v Wade’… claims he’s ‘extreme’ border on farce.” Meanwhile here in reality 6/24/2022 ‘Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade; states can ban abortion’ - “Authority to regulate abortion rests with the political branches, not the courts, Alito wrote. Joining Alito were Justices Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett.” The latter three SCOTUS justices are Trump appointees - and all three swore under oath that Roe would stand.
The Albuquerque Journal editorial board never wrote about the repeal, and remained silent on the abortion issue until 10/23/22 when they blew off the issue to endorse a Republican neophyte with zero management experience, for Governor, who lost the race. Since June 2022 - 15 states (inclding Arizona on New Mexico’s west border/Texas on the east border) have made abortion illegal. As New Mexico’s border states have restricted the individual liberties and freedoms of women - NM has seen a surge of women seeking asylum to recieve needed healthcare, including abortion. Perhaps, this is why the New Mexico Governor created a hotline?
In April 2024 it’s not only women’s healthcare and abortion access under attack across the United States - but also contraception, and treatments like IVF In vitro fertilization.
Fetal personhood? Yes!Free and nutritious school lunches? No!
Maternity/paternity leave? No!Funding pre school? No! Low cost meds? No! Expand contraeption? NO! Life doesn’t end at birth!
The right to a safe and legal abortion is not a religious issue. It is a human rights issue. As long as the Grand Old Republican Party continues to use religious beliefs to oppress American women, they are as guilty of human rights violations as extremists who use Islam to commit atrocities against women.

The ABQ Journal Editorial board bros should get out of their reactionary safe space - and bring a few smart ladies on board!
Stay tuned for the next issue - we will be looking at why the Albuquerque Jounral editorial board praises incompetent leaders like APD Chief Harold Medina, ABQ Mayor Keller,or Donald Trump - and why they seem to excoriate centrist and moderate women like Gov. Michelle Lujan-Grisham, Hillary Clinton, and Diane Denish. Why are women held to such a far higher standard then the mens?
